What matters success, happiness or doing the right thing?

This is has been a tough question to answer, I am currently consuming knowledge and asking a lot of questions as I start doing the things I have aspired to do for a long time, which is run my own “shop”. I’m not going to limit what I can do. But that is the dilemma… I could play the game the best way possible in the rules that allow myself in the world of communication and business. Like when you play footy, and start lipping up your opponent when dominating them or start slipping in a few cheap shots when being dominated to change the momentum. After it all, you shake hands and say it was just a game but, the fact that you took some questionable actions that would define your character in the real world to get what you wanted in the parameters of the rules rugby provide, is it okay? Is it right? Are you happy with that? Did you succeed in reaching your goal? What is more important?

Success is measured on winning a challenge or goal set. Well, that is what the media smashes on our socials and on any screen we see. Trophies are lifted, Prizemoney is won, Girls and Guys secure their loved ones. Drama (Entertainment, the storyline) is built on the tension of whether someone succeeds reaching the goal or not. Is Success important? More than Failures? The narrative to succeed is to lose as many times so you can learn from the mistakes. Being thoughtful in your attempts is one thing, but to keep making mistakes/failures at the cost of others receiving poor products or services, is this right? Well, if we are glorifying winners are we glorifying the losers successes? I am probably going to say and write this a lot times in the stuff I put out but “The Definition of oneself is not defined by ones result but by ones effort”

“The Definition of oneself is not defined by ones result but defined ones effort”

It’s tricky, my team the ‘Mighty Melbourne Storm’ have dealt with this, Success achieved at the club that from outside the club they say were not deserved with their ‘Salary Cap breaches’ from 2006-2009, their Minor Premierships and Major Premierships were stripped from the record books. They may have broken the rules, which questions the legitimacy of their claim to the title by “cheating” but they feel whole heartedly that their effort deserved the validation. They are not saying they don’t take responsibility, Yes, within the “rules” the Premierships do not qualify though they still had to turn up train and win the games. From the players and coaches perspective they are have a point. But the problem is, having an even playing field that the ‘Salary Cap’ provides is why the cap enforced. Was it an even playing field? No. The market of those players involved to be available to booster other teams in the competition, but was not available because they were held at the Storm by going over the cap makes it uneven. The consequences you could say was harsh compared to other teams. But that’s not the point I want to make here. All involved have a responsibility.

but it was all through effort of the club. Their success in the players minds is based off their efforts in preparation and performance, their results are there but don’t define them. The infinite efforts out weigh the finite result (Simon Sinek, Infinite game. thank you!)

Happiness what is this measured on? Wealth? Power? How many girls you can bed? The drugs you choose to create an alternate world? I’ve learnt about the Happiness Trap (author). It says it is not natural to pursue happiness. We were made to survive and happiness back in those days wasn’t helpful and those that were buzzing out on the herb from the earth would have not survived. It says that being constantly happy is unnatural. If you think about it… Think about how much energy you would have to take to be happy all the time, knowing shit happens. Yes, we have a choice of how to react emotionally and how we think to decide how we will act. It explains how powerful our mind is, and just like our muscles if we train it on how to behave we can make it work more positively on how to behave when shit happens. Chasing something that is not normal doesn’t seem smart? What if being happy is having no pressure, no responsibilities or accountability to anyone, so abusing your body, mind and time or others with food, drugs and the drink. Having Power and more money doesn’t make you happy. Yeah being happy is good, so is being at peace, so is being aware and mindful on what is really important, so is doing the right thing.

I’ve reached my goal of playing professional football, you can say I succeeded. Was it worth being disloyal to my agents? I’ve been a position where I had everything people think you should be happy with wife, kids, getting paid to play footy, Land rover, mortgage-free house, holidays, eating out, partying, all the going out gears, but yet I was in deep depression. What matters? I think doing the right thing gives you a lasting peace and a sense of contentment. As if you are doing the right thing, you be good to yourself, family, friends and strangers. Starting these platforms, there could be aligned intentions to grow the message of love with playing the game. But how? Do I play the way “success” is defined? Do I chase the happiness at the cost of producing something not real but marketing it as authentic? I am reading a bible plan on the ‘Bible app’ called ‘Bible MBA’ (Second time this time writing notes). The truths in it is supported with the bible and is quite eye opening in the dangers of not being legit in business, to staff, customers and ultimately to yourself. It’s quite confronting to be held accountable in that way but as I think about it. It’s way more lasting (infinite) the results it produces and the positively effects more people. And for the message of love to ever be compromised for profits or status that is something that doesn’t sit comfortable with me. Do what is right! That’s all! It will be tough and I pray I am aware to this when making decisions on this new journey. Well, this is just what I think, what do you think?

Thank you Lord!
